Old Bay Hot Sauce is seen in the 草莓传媒 newsroom in Chevy Chase, Maryland, on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020. (草莓传媒/Teta Alim)

With a kick of heat and a distinct Chesapeake flavor, past its original recipe and into the hot sauce market.

Old Bay 鈥 the Maryland-favorite seasoning mix that has been around for more than 75 years 鈥 is introducing hot sauce to their lineup, according to its .

鈥淥ur fans are always super excited to share with us all the ways they鈥檙e using the seasoning and celebrating their love of Old Bay,” said Jill Pratt, vice president of Marketing for McCormick & Co.

“From costumes and themed weddings, to home d茅cor and even tattoos. We can鈥檛 wait to hear what they think of our new hot sauce.鈥

The sauce was made available Wednesday on Old Bay’s website at $3.49 a bottle, and will be coming in the next month to several retail stores in the area. Multiple restaurants in the local area will be offering the hot sauce for tasting as well.

By Wednesday afternoon, Old Bay’s Twitter account announced that the hot sauce had sold out on its website, which temporarily crashed after eager buyers flooded the site. Around 2:45 p.m., it said that “more will be coming soon.”

The front label of the hot sauce reads: “For Game Day, Brunch & Happy Hour.” The company recommends you pair the sauce with chili, nachos, wings and cocktails, among other iterations.

Customers who snagged some of the precious sauce began reselling it online almost immediately, charging anywhere between $50 to $200, The Virginian-Pilot reported.

The appropriately-priced hot sauce will be restocked soon online, and will be on sale over the next month at stores such as Acme, Giant, Food Lion, Martin鈥檚, Safeway, Wegmans and Weis, for a limited time, the company said.

Old Bay was originally created in Baltimore as a seasoning mix and has since expanded to include items such as seasoned beers and chips.

草莓传媒 afternoon anchors Shawn Anderson and Hillary Howard gave the hot sauce a taste test. Watch their reaction below.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Hogan reignites fight to have Maryland schools start after Labor Day /maryland/2020/01/hogan-reignites-fight-to-have-maryland-schools-start-after-labor-day/ /maryland/2020/01/hogan-reignites-fight-to-have-maryland-schools-start-after-labor-day/#respond Wed, 29 Jan 2020 17:46:58 +0000 /?p=20681140 Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced Wednesday that he plans to introduce , which will require public schools around the state to start after Labor Day.

The announcement comes almost one year after the legislature overturned a similar 2016 executive order that schools had to start after Labor Day weekend.

鈥淓ach school system is very, very different from each other,鈥 said Sen. Nancy King, D-Montgomery, in early 2019 during the vote to repeal. 鈥淭hey need to make those decisions for themselves on the calendar.鈥

Now, Hogan is looking to fight back once again, stating that he believes the legislature’s overturning of his order made school start dates confusing, as well as going against what those in the state want.

鈥淲e have taken a lot of actions over the past five years, but I can鈥檛 think of a single one that has more widespread, enthusiastic support across the state,鈥 Hogan said in a release.

Hogan went on to say that after two years, “special interests snuck a bill in,” claiming that legislators then reversed course and “ignored the people again by reversing this common sense action with a misguided piece of legislation, which has the potential to cause mass confusion this fall and in future years with a potential for 24 different start dates spread over several weeks.鈥

Hogan appears to be pointing to a poll from March 2019, which stated that over 55% of Marylanders wanted a post-Labor Day start.

In the D.C. area, where a majority of schools reside, 53% say they wanted the start to be after the holiday, while 43% stated they wanted local jurisdictions to handle it. Western Maryland had the most support for the September start, at 59% for versus 37% against.

It should be noted that the poll did not indicate whether those polled had children in Maryland schools.

In 2013, the Maryland General Assembly voted 170-7 to beginl after Labor Day. In 2016, Hogan made the decision to sign an executive order mandating all schools begin after Labor Day.
