Worker killed in construction site accident in Northwest DC /dc/2019/12/worker-killed-in-construction-site-accident-in-northwest-dc/ /dc/2019/12/worker-killed-in-construction-site-accident-in-northwest-dc/#respond Tue, 24 Dec 2019 19:42:03 +0000 /?p=20566935 A construction worker was killed Tuesday morning in an apparent work accident at the old Fannie Mae site near Tenleytown in Northwest D.C.

D.C. Fire spokesman Vito Maggiolo said the 911 call came in around 11:30 a.m. First responders found the worker pinned underneath the bed of a dump truck.

“We found an accident that involved a dump truck, in which a worker was apparently lowering the bed of the dump truck onto the body, and somehow became pinned,” Maggiolo told ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½.

According to a statement from Richard Lake with Roadside Development, the developer of the City Ridge construction site, a dump truck had broken down and two members of the crew including the driver attempted to repair a damaged axle. The man was beneath the vehicle working on the axle when the truck bed was accidentally lowered, pinning him.

The man was pronounced dead at the construction site.

The construction site has been shut down until further notice.

Developers are in the midst of converting the old Fannie Mae building into a mixed-use development that will include a new Wegmans grocery store.

²ÝÝ®´«Ã½’s Teta Alim and Luke Lukert contributed to this report.

Man rescued from Arlington creek after flipping car, allegedly fleeing domestic dispute /arlington/2019/12/man-ends-up-in-four-mile-creek-after-flipping-car-in-arlington-domestic-dispute/ /arlington/2019/12/man-ends-up-in-four-mile-creek-after-flipping-car-in-arlington-domestic-dispute/#respond Mon, 23 Dec 2019 12:28:18 +0000 /?p=20562936 What started as a domestic dispute in Arlington, Virginia, on Monday morning ended with a water rescue after a crash near a creek.

Law enforcement were responding to a call over a domestic dispute in the area early Monday morning, a police spokesman told ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½, when a man made a getaway in his car.

Though police did not chase the man, his vehicle was later found overturned on South Glebe Road at Four Mile Run. It remained out of the water, but the driver ended up in the adjacent creek.

Police are unsure if the man abandoned the car and ran into the creek, or if he was ejected from his car into it. Regardless, he required a rescue out of the water.

Arlington first responders took a boat out into the creek and saved the man from drowning around 200 feet down stream from where he had crashed his car.

He was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered life threatening. He has since been released and placed under arrest in connection with the domestic dispute.
