The 1,400-square-foot restaurant, with two drive-thru lanes, 12 pull-up ordering stalls and a dining patio, will be located at 4115 Talon Drive in Dumfries, part of the Barracks Row at Quantico commercial development less than a mile northwest of the I-95 interchange at state Route 234. The location 鈥渨ill constitute a flagship Sonic design that will serve as a benchmark for future restaurant drive-thru development,鈥 according to a written narrative accompanying the application, filed by Noah Klein of Venable LLP.

Sonic, which of course sells burgers and hot dogs but is probably best known for its drinks (large variety of shakes, slushes) and sides (tots, onion rings, mozzarella sticks), only operates two franchised restaurants in Northern Virginia, one in Manassas and another in Leesburg. Live K Karaoke Bar plans to open this fall at 730 Maine Ave. SW, the Washington Business Journal has learned. The venue is slated to include private rooms and a main stage for customers to sing and dance to their favorite tunes, per a page for the bar on The Wharf’s website. It’s the type of entertainment-themed retail Hoffman-Madison Waterfront has been courting to generate more activity at the development, anchored by concert venue The Anthem.

I’ve reached out to representatives for the tenant and landlord and will update this post with additional information once I have heard back.

The 6,686-square-foot karaoke bar will be opening in the former District Hardware and Bike space, one of a handful of retailers that shuttered at The Wharf since the start of the pandemic. Many of those spaces are slowly being leased back up鈥

Hogan made the comments Tuesday in Annapolis in response to a reporter鈥檚 question at a press conference on a new workforce development initiative for state jobs.

鈥淚 think [the Commanders are] using everyone back and forth as they have been for eight years. They鈥檙e negotiating, pitting everyone against each other,鈥 said Hogan, suggesting the Commanders are setting Maryland, D.C. and Virginia against one another to get a better stadium deal. 鈥淏ut we鈥檙e not going to get in a bidding war over them and we鈥檙e not going to be proposing $1.2 billion for them to build a new stadium. The $1.2 billion figure is a nod to legislation in Virginia through which a state stadium authority would be authorized to sell鈥

You can probably guess where: Springfield Town Center.

JMC Pop Ups LLC is bringing its “Moe’s Pop Up Experience” to the Northern Virginia shopping center, in a space on the lower level by the Macy’s entrance. It will look authentic with one fairly massive difference from the cartoon version: No Duff. Or any beer for that matter.

“This is not an actual bar,” per the website. “This is a family friendly event.”

While the Pennsylvania version of the pop-up (also at an aptly named venue, the Springfield Mall) did have beer, JMC was unable to get the same permissions for alcohol sales in Virginia, said Sam Shutter of JMC, who had just arrived in the commonwealth Thursday to ready the Springfield Town Center space.

So how did JMC replicate Moe’s? “Entirely too many episodes of The Simpsons,” Shutter said.

The pop-up will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning鈥

The termination includes “all associated task orders, including the 2020 task order to reserve capacity and expand manufacturing for third-party Covid-19 vaccine and therapeutic candidates,” the company announced Thursday after the closing bell as part of its third-quarter earnings disclosures.

The contract termination means that Emergent will lose out on approximately $180 million in value from the 2020 Covid task order 鈥 work the company says was slated to end at the end of 2021 anyway 鈥 and a little more than $22 million鈥

Seattle data company PayScale Inc. has ranked colleges and universities by the median salaries of their alumni.
