WASHINGTON 鈥� Anne Arundel County police shot at and Tasered a 32-year-old Severn, Maryland, man Friday night after allegedly displaying a handgun to several children in the 8100 block of Meade Village Road, police said.
The shots did not hit the man and police said the Taser appeared to have no effect.
Anne Arundel County police responded to a 911 call around 8:38 p.m. about an armed suspect with a gun, possibly a revolver. The suspect was sitting in a car, showing the weapon to kids.
Two officers arrived and commanded the man to exit the vehicle with his hands up.
The suspect refused to comply and reached for the center console of his vehicle.
One of the officers then deployed his departmental Taser, which had no effect on the suspect.
Police said the suspect then reached again toward the center console, as well has his waist.
That’s when the second officer fired his gun twice.
The suspect fled on foot into a nearby residence, exited the back door and surrendered to police.
He was taken to an area hospital and found uninjured.
The officer who shot at the suspect, a six-year veteran, was placed on administrative leave, which is department policy.
Detectives are still investigating.
No charges have been filed yet.
