The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning areas inside and around the Capital Beltway, along with southern Maryland and points south. The warning and the advisory begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday and end at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Snowfall will intensify overnight, with deteriorating conditions expected. General snow totals will be between 3 to 6 inches, with heavier amounts to the south of D.C. Some areas may pick up 7 to 8 inches by early Wednesday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted along the border of Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Snow will rapidly draw to a close early Wednesday. About a 12-hour lull is anticipated before another round of potentially disruptive weather arrives. Plan for a wintry mix, with freezing rain and sleet by evening before transitioning to all rain during the overnight. Additional weather alerts are likely to be issued.
Lingering showers will draw to a close early Thursday, as skies begin to clear. Temperatures will reach the 40s.
