WASHINGTON — It may be a little bit more difficult to grab print news at Pentagon after the military kicked newspaper boxes from the property because of their security risk.
The Pentagon recently removed all newspaper dispensers outside the building that held copies of popular papers, reports.
Pentagon Spokesman Air Force Lt. Col. Tom Crosson told Military Times that the move was a way to improve security.
“No specific threat has been identified, but the Pentagon Force Protection Agency is being proactive in removing newspaper dispensers that could potentially contain unsafe items,” Crosson said in an email to Military Times.
Every day, thousands of people transit through the Pentagon’s grounds — a military installation not sequestered from the public.
The Pentagon has undergone major security improvements in the last year to make sure the property is safe, including an expansion to the visitor vetting system.
Pentagon visitors aren’t completely shut out from print news. People can purchase several major newspapers at concessions inside the building.
