WASHINGTON — The Harlem Globetrotters honored 109-year-old Virginia McLaurin Wednesday afternoon at the Capital One Arena.

McLaurin, who’s famous for dancing and ringing in her , took center court during the first quarter break where Briana “Hoops” Green helped her spin the ball on her finger.

This is not the first time McLaurin has gone viral with the Globetrotters; she serenaded the team during their visit to a D.C. public charter school earlier this month.

Macaulay Culkin, now 38, reprises his role in the classic “Home Alone” in a montage of recreated-but-updated scenes from the original 1990 comedy.

Culkin was 10 years old when the film was released.

This time, he really needs that aftershave. And in an update of one memorable scene, he’s swapped out a Michael Jordan cutout with one of Golden State superstar Kevin Durant.

Onzay Gibbs, 28, was sentenced Friday. He was found guilty in May of aggravated assault and assault with intent to kill while armed.

Prosecutors said in a statement that Gibbs and the victim were leaving a dice game in the 2000 block of Savannah Terrace Southeast when Gibbs stopped to talk with someone driving a car in 22nd Street, then forced the victim into the car.

The victim was then driven to the 3300 block of 23rd Street Southeast, where he was dragged into the bushes and stabbed repeatedly by Gibbs and left for dead until a passer-by called 911.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Medical reports show he suffered from 16 stab wounds to his face and body and “was cut three-fourths of the way around his neck,” a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office from the District of Columbia said.

Text messages found on Gibbs’ phone revealed efforts to evade police in days following the stabbing. He was arrested by the Capital Area Regional Task Force on Oct. 26, 2016.

Following his release, Gibbs will be on supervised release for another five years.

Detectives learned the child was living at a foster home in the City of Fredericksburg and after a monthslong investigation that included medical experts from VCU Children’s Hospital, they determined the child had received “intentional patterned burn injuries”.

On Thursday, 33-year-old Eric L. Woods turned himself in to police and was arrested for one count of felony child abuse causing injury.

Woods’ foster parent license was issued through a private child placement agency, a news release said.

Woods was released on bond.

Investigation into allegations of hazing on Damascus High School football team /montgomery-county/2018/11/investigation-opened-after-allegations-of-hazing-on-local-jv-football-team/ /montgomery-county/2018/11/investigation-opened-after-allegations-of-hazing-on-local-jv-football-team/#respond Thu, 01 Nov 2018 20:22:12 +0000 /?p=18904405 WASHINGTON — Montgomery County Public Schools announced Thursday that it will launch an investigation into reports of alleged hazing by members of the junior varsity football team at Damascus High School in the Maryland county.

In a letter to parents, Derek Turner, director of the school system’s Department of Communications, acknowledged receiving reports of hazing and confirmed that the Montgomery County Police Department has started an investigation.

Turner said the “alleged behavior is upsetting and unacceptable and will not be tolerated.” As a result of the allegations, the junior varsity football game was forfeited Thursday.

“Any student who is found to have hazed another student will be disciplined,” and could also face legal recourse, Turner said.

Montgomery County police confirmed an investigation is underway in its Special Victims Investigations Division because the hazing allegations include sexual offenses.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and they will release more information once it is confirmed.

After crashing into cars, Va. man climbed fast-food restaurant, deputies say /stafford-county/2018/10/after-crashing-into-cars-va-man-climbed-fast-food-restaurant-deputies-say/ /stafford-county/2018/10/after-crashing-into-cars-va-man-climbed-fast-food-restaurant-deputies-say/#respond Mon, 29 Oct 2018 20:28:07 +0000 /?p=18893149 WASHINGTON — A Virginia man is under arrest Monday after allegedly striking 10 vehicles in a parking lot and climbing onto the roof of a Five Guys to evade police.

Stafford County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Stafford Marketplace after reports of multiple car accidents around 10 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, they determined that the driver of a Ford pickup — which was hauling a trailer containing another pickup — had crashed into 10 parked cars.

Four of the cars that were struck were occupied at the time. Those four drivers were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Upon further investigation, the pickup’s driver, 37-year-old James Edward Baumann Jr., fled on foot and successfully scaled a pipe on the side of a Five Guys location. The suspect, who police believe was intoxicated, then hid inside an air conditioning unit on the roof.

Sheriff’s deputies found him inside the air-conditioning unit and took him into custody.

A spokeswoman for the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office tells ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½ that Baumann already had outstanding warrants for a failure to appear in court and probation violations in Stafford, Prince William and Spotsylvania counties.

The suspect was taken to Rappahannock Regional Jail and is being held without bond.

WASHINGTON — Police have charged a 38-year-old man with second-degree burglary after he broke into the Fox 5 news station Monday afternoon and was shot by a security officer.

Just after 3 p.m., George Odemns approached FOX 5’s offices on Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest and attempted to enter the building, according to D.C. police. Odemns was confronted by a security guard, who informed him he was not allowed to enter the building.

At that point, Odemns kicked his way through two sets of glass doors, entered the building and started walking in the direction of the desk station, near the main part of the building.

The guard drew their weapon and instructed Odemns to stop walking. They then shot Odemns once in the chest, causing him to fall to the floor. D.C. police arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.

Odemns was responsive when he was taken to the hospital, and is in stable condition. No employees were injured in the incident.

In the past, Odemns sent rambling emails to FOX 5 and other D.C. area news stations, including ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½, in which he claimed he was under the influence of a microchip implanted in his head — an allegation that led him to file dozens of lawsuits against multiple groups including the NRA, the Murdoch family, and the Trump Organization.

In one such case against the Trump Organization, a judge said Odemns’ claims were “baseless, irrational and wholly incredible.” All the lawsuits were ultimately dismissed.
