Md. girl struck by pickup truck, in critical condition after getting off school bus

WASHINGTON — A 7-year-old girl was hit by a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon after getting off a school bus in Charles County, Maryland, and is in critical condition.

At around 3:45 p.m., the girl was struck by the truck near the intersection of Olivers Shop and Leonardtown roads in Bryantown.

The driver allegedly passed the stopped school bus and hit the child, a spokeswoman for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office told ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½. Witnesses told law enforcement officials that the bus had activated its flashing stop sign.

The bus was leaving T.C. Martin Elementary School, which is about a mile away from where the girl was struck.

The girl was unconscious and suffering from head trauma when she was transported to the hospital.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of the Ford F-250 was a 35-year-old woman, and she remained on the scene.
