Nando’s Peri-Peri shakes up its menu

WASHINGTON — Competing for your fast-casual dining dollars takes occasional reinvention, and Nando’s Peri-Peri is the latest chain to shake up its menu.

It will debut the new menu items at all of its locations in D.C., Baltimore and Chicago.

Nando’s, the South African-based grilled chicken chain that chose D.C. for its first U.S. restaurants, is adding more than a half-dozen new menu items including a chicken thigh sandwich (the “Thigh and Mighty,”) a quinoa salad, chicken skewers and roasted vegetables.

Also, it has added pineapple lemonade, and blood orange and mango lemonade.

Nando’s opened its first U.S. restaurant in D.C.’s Chinatown in 2008. It has 31 locations in the Washington-Baltimore region and Chicago, most around the D.C. metro area.

It opened its seventh Northern Virginia location, in Merrifield, last month.

Nando’s was founded in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1987. It has locations in about two dozen countries and is also the largest collector of South African contemporary art, displayed in its restaurants.
