WASHINGTON聽鈥� Maryland and the District both saw lower unemployment rates in June, while Virginia’s statewide unemployment rate was unchanged.
All three report month-over-month job growth.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics says Maryland’s unemployment rate in June was 4.3 percent, down from 4.5 percent in May and down from 5.1 percent a year earlier.
Employers in Maryland added 9,800 jobs last month.
Virginia’s unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.7 percent last month, but down from 4.4 percent a year ago. Virginia added 8,800 jobs.
D.C.’s unemployment rate fell to 6 percent last month, from 6.1 percent in May. D.C. employers added 1,700 jobs in June.
South Dakota had the nation’s lowest state unemployment rate in June, at just 2.7 percent. Alaska had the highest, at 6.7 percent.
