Spirit Airlines adds Fort Myers, Tampa to BWI service

WASHINGTON — Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines continues its expansion at BWI Marshall Airport, adding service to new Florida destinations.

Spirit is starting daily nonstop service from BWI Marshall to Fort Myers and Tampa beginning Nov. 10.

Spirit added nonstops from BWI Marshall to Orlando, Boston and Detroit earlier this year. With the latest additions, Spirit Airlines will serve 14 cities from BWI  Marshall.

Miramar, Florida-based Spirit moved its Washington-area operations from Reagan National Airport to BWI Marshall in 2012, saying it could better serve its customers throughout the entire region. It had been flying from Reagan National to Florida since 2003.

Spirit’s Florida-heavy schedule competes with Southwest Airlines on Florida routes from BWI Marshall. Other Spirit destinations from the airport include Dallas, Vegas and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
