WASHINGTON – BWI-Marshall Airport became the fourth U.S. airport for British Airways’ 787 Dreamliner aircraft Monday night.
It is also the first 787 service from an airline for BWI-Marshall.
The British Airways flight from London’s Heathrow Airport arrived Monday evening, the inaugural flight for the upgraded service. British Airways will fly 787-8 aircraft exclusively on its route between London and BWI-Marshall now.
Three airlines currently use 787 aircraft on at least some of their flights to and from Dulles International Airport – Etithad, Virgin Atlantic and Ethiopian Airlines.
Boeing’s 787 is the company’s most fuel-efficient aircraft; it’s built with composite materials. For passengers, the cabins include high ceilings and larger windows as well as state-of-the-art amenities.
British Airways is using 787 aircraft on its London to BWI-Marshall route configured for 214 passengers in three classes.
BWI-Marshall had a record 24 million passengers in 2015, with international traffic showing the most significant growth. The airport has also set 10 consecutive monthly passenger records.
