WASHINGTON 鈥� Your smartphone can’t do your laundry, but it can get it done for you.
New York-based is launching its on-demand laundry and dry cleaning service .
Cleanly is initially working in the Logan Circle and Shaw neighborhoods, but plans to expand to Dupont Circle and Farragut next, and says it will be available throughout D.C. within the next few months.
If successful, Cleanly plans to expand its service to the D.C. suburbs.
Cleanly’s arrival in D.C. comes six weeks after competitor Washio closed up shop.
Washio launched an on-demand laundry and dry cleaning service in D.C. last October, but shut down operations Aug. 30, a victim of the low-margin, on-demand economy.
Pricing for Cleanly’s service starts at $1.99 a pound for regular laundry. The $4.99 delivery fee is waived for orders over $30.
Cleanly launched in Manhattan in January 2015.
The service allows users to schedule pickups online and via an app, and to provide specific instructions for laundering.
It uses existing launderers and dry cleaners as vendors.
Cleanly has raised $2.3 million in funding from investors, and is a graduate of New York’s Y Combinator startup incubator.
