DC’s getting a Wawa, but what will it carry?

WASHINGTON — Wawa has confirmed that it will make its first foray into the District, but it is unclear exactly what the company has planned.

Invitations sent out for a June 13 event at the ݮýeum said Wawa was “creating a store uniquely designed for the D.C. customer,” and referred to it as a “restaurant-style location,” featuring the “best of Wawa’s products in a casual, inviting setting.”

There was no mention of the new store selling gas. Gas and hoagies are the two biggest draws for Wawa’s suburban Washington fans.

“We will unveil our plans for the first Wawa store in Washington, D.C., including a special design, store location and renderings, with remarks from Wawa leadership,” Wawa spokeswoman Colleen Labik told ݮý in an email, without providing any other details (other than an invitation to attend).

She said the event was specifically for the real estate and development community, as well as local officials.

Pennsylvania-based Wawa has more than a dozen locations outside of the Washington and Baltimore beltways, and operates in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Florida in addition to Maryland and Virginia.
