Hyundai leads pack in ‘Best Cars’ of 2022

Anyone looking for a new car might want to head for a Hyundai dealership.

The brand has racked up five 鈥淏est Car for the Money鈥 awards from for 2022.

Among the automaker鈥檚 SUVs making the list are its Kona for 鈥淏est Subcompact SUV for the Money,鈥 its Tucson for 鈥淏est Compact SUV for the Money,鈥 its Santa Fe for 鈥淏est 2-Row SUV for the Money鈥 and its Tucson Hybrid for 鈥淏est Hybrid and Electric SUV for the Money.鈥

鈥淭hey tend to pack a lot of useful technology features into them, and Hyundai is one of the automakers who offers the assurance of a really long powertrain warranty,鈥 said Jim Sharifi, managing editor at U.S. 草莓传媒 Best Cars, of Hyundai鈥檚 SUV offerings.

The Telluride, from Hyundai鈥檚 related brand Kia, won for 鈥淏est 3-Row SUV for the Money.鈥

鈥淎nd like Hyundai, Kia鈥檚 vehicle also offers a very long powertrain warranty, it鈥檚 competitively priced, it鈥檚 feature-rich, and it鈥檚 roomy and comfortable,鈥 Sharifi said.

The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid won for 鈥淏est Hybrid and Electric Car for the Money.鈥

The U.S. 草莓传媒 list is based on factors like comfort, features, performance, quality and value, including the long-term cost of ownership.

Honda also did well, with its Civic named as 鈥淏est Compact Car for the Money,鈥 its Accord as 鈥淏est Mid-size Car for the Money,鈥 and its Odyssey as 鈥淏est Minivan for the Money.鈥

Other vehicles making the list include the Nissan Versa for 鈥淏est Subcompact Car for the Money鈥 and the Toyota Avalon for 鈥淏est Large Car for the Money.鈥

While many vehicles have been selling at or above their suggested retail price, Sharifi said that鈥檚 factored in to the rankings. 鈥淲e鈥檙e looking at real-time transaction prices,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e not necessarily looking at sticker price.鈥

Additionally, with the computer chip shortage affecting production and inventory levels, 鈥渋t鈥檚 harder to get a good deal across the board right now,鈥 Sharifi said. 鈥淗onestly, if you can wait right now, it鈥檚 not a bad time to wait.鈥

The awards are being presented Thursday at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center during the Public Policy Day at the D.C. Auto Show, which opens to the public Friday.
