WASHINGTON 鈥� With snow flurries and freezing rain in the forecast and much of the area under a winter weather advisory, road crews have taken to the streets to get ahead of the weather.
The forecast calls a wintry mix to begin Saturday morning between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. By about 11 a.m., temperature will warm to above freezing and the precipitation will switch to mostly spotty showers.
Some schools have canceled or delayed activities Saturday morning. .

D.C.
The D.C. Department of Public Works Friday its snow team is preparing for a “full deployment” of 200 snowplow to treat District roadways beginning at 11 p.m.
Crews will pre-treat primary, secondary and residential routes overnight, according to a statement from the District Snow Team.
Officials encourage the public to take Metro to stay off the roads until temperatures rise above freezing if possible.

Virginia
In Northern Virginia, about 1,100 trucks hit the streets about 7 p.m. Friday to begin treating roads with mixes of salt, sand and liquid magnesium chloride, Virginia Department of Transportation announced.
Officials said VDOT crews took advantage of to pre-treat roads with anti-icing material.
Crews plan on treating about 5,200 lane miles, including interstates, primary roads, high-volume second roads as well as ramps, bridges and other areas prone to freezing.
Maryland
In Maryland, the State Highway Administration began making final preparations Friday afternoon for the expected winter weather.
