WASHINGTON — The snow that hit the D.C. area has seriously hampered Virginia Railway Express, Metro and Amtrak service Wednesday.

Here’s what you need to know:

Metrorail has significantly cut back service as of 11 a.m. with trains only running every 12-15 minutes.

As the East Coast rubbed its eyes in disbelief at the stunning forecast for Wednesday, Mother Nature showed she was in no rush for warm weather. Here are sights from around the region.

Metrobus switched to a severe snow plan. That means buses will only be operating on major roads. Read more about the impacted routes .

MetroAccess is no longer taking “outbound” trips, meaning it will only take people who are already out back home.

Virginia Railway Express has canceled service for Wednesday.

All MARC train service is suspended for Wednesday.

Maryland Commuter Bus and MobilityLink services are canceled Wednesday. LocalLink and Metro SubwayLink are operating.

In Prince George’s County, TheBus and Para-transit services have been terminated for Wednesday.

For Loudoun County residents, all Loudoun County Commuter Bus and Metro Connection Bus Services are canceled Wednesday. All Local Fixed Route bus services are starting on a regular schedule but could be suspended or canceled depending on snow totals and road conditions. ADA/Paratransit bus services are canceled.

Amtrak has running Wednesday. That includes several Acela trains to New York and Boston, as well as one train along the Capitol Limited line to Chicago and two trains each along the New York/Miami Silver Meteor and Silver Star lines. Read more details about Amtrak’s service changes on
