Man charged in Metro beating seeks continuance

WASHINGTON – A man caught on video beating a passenger on a Metro train could soon accept a plea deal.

William Nelson, 52, was in court Monday morning for a preliminary hearing, but his lawyer asked for and was granted a continuance.

Another hearing is set for next Tuesday, and attorney Gregg Baron said there could be “a resolution” by then.

In the meantime, Nelson remains in jail on a felony charge of assault with significant bodily injury. Video from June 7 shows Nelson repeatedly and violently punching a passenger in the face on a moving Green Line Metro train.

The video went viral online and was viewed millions of times.
