Smoke incident reported at Federal Center station early Sunday

WASHINGTON — A smoke incident was reported on at the Federal Center Metro stop on Sunday, nearly a year to the day that a smoke incident on the Yellow Line took a woman’s life.

No injuries were reported in Sunday’s incident, which was caused by a mechanical problem, a Metro spokeswoman said.

The incident occurred at around 2 a.m. at the Federal Center SW station, which was shut down for about 30 minutes. The Federal Center station serves the Orange, Blue and Silver lines.

About a dozen people had to be offloaded to another train.

A year ago, ia died after smoke filled a Yellow Line train near the L’Enfant Plaza station.
