Howard University grad applies for loan, ends up in Super Bowl ad

WASHINGTON 鈥 When he applied for a loan, Brandon Williams just wanted to fix up his San Diego condo.

鈥淏ut I had no idea it was going to be part of the Super Bowl,鈥 says the Howard University graduate.

But that鈥檚 exactly what happened after he took out a loan with SoFi, an online lender. The finance company that touts it conventional vetting process invited Williams and many others to be part of a new series of spot.

The first commercial聽debuts during the second quarter of the CBS Super Bowl 50 broadcast.

鈥淭hey鈥檙e highlighting a bunch of different individuals, and saying who鈥檚 great and who鈥檚 not,鈥 Williams says. 鈥淭hey finally zero in on me, and explain that I鈥檓 great, and why I鈥檓 great.鈥

Williams spent two days shooting the commercial in which he鈥檚 walking out of a restaurant with some takeout.

The finance major from Howard speaks well of the company 鈥 but also admits he did the ad for free.

鈥淚 did this pro bono because it鈥檚 a brand that I believe in,” he says. “They gave me a really good rate on the loan.鈥
