WASHINGTON — An argument turned physical Monday night and led to a teenage girl being stabbed to death in the Petworth area of Northwest D.C.

D.C. police have arrested a suspect Tuesday afternoon who they believe was involved in the fatal stabbing; Kyla Jones, 18, of Northwest D.C., was arrested and charged with murder two while armed.

The 17-year-old victim, identified as Kaelia Minor of Northwest D.C., was stabbed in the chest with a knife after getting off a Metrobus at Kansas Avenue and Emerson Street.

Minor was taken to a hospital, where police say she was pronounced dead. After the stabbing, the suspect had left the scene.

Minor had been involved in an argument on the bus with the other teenager, D.C. police said. According to interim D.C. police Chief Peter ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½ham, the suspect and victim knew each other.

“We believe it was over a cellphone,” D.C. police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said previously.

But at the announcement of the arrest Tuesday night, ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½ham declined to confirm if the argument was over a cellphone.
