Construction worker falls 5 stories in NW DC

WASHINGTON — A construction worker fell five stories from scaffolding in Northwest D.C. Wednesday evening, causing traffic delays in the area.

Around 5 p.m., a construction worker fell at a site in the 4000 block of Georgia Avenue near the intersection with Emerson Street. The worker fell five stories into a hole below ground level, said Doug Buchanan with D.C. Fire/EMS.

Emergency crews transported the worker, whose name has not yet been released, to an area hospital. The worker has critical injuries, Buchanan said.

The accident and investigation closed Georgia Avenue in both directions.
