Goodbye, Tom Kierein: NBC Washington sends off meteorologist after 34 years at station (Video)

WASHINGTON — Wednesday was Storm Team4 Meteorologist Tom Kierein’s last day at NBC Washington, and the station gave him a warm send-off during its midday broadcast.

Kierein is retiring from NBC Washington, ݮý’s broadcast news partner, after 34 years at the station. He plans to retire to Colorado, and will explore the region with his family.

During ݮý4 Midday, Pat Collins interrupted Kierein’s forecast to give him a coveted “Pat Collins Snow Stick.”

Also, former meteorologist Bob Ryan stopped by to wish Kierein well.

Ryan estimated that Kierein has delivered more than 7,000 forecasts in the morning.

“[He’s] not only a great colleague, but more importantly a great service to Washington,” Ryan said of his former corworker.
