Around 11:45 a.m., a car driving westbound on Independence Avenue hit a barrier and a Capitol Police cruiser at the intersection of Second Street in Southeast.

The collision injured the driver and a Capitol Police officer. The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The Capitol Police officer was transported to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released, said police spokeswoman Eva Malecki in an email to ݮý.

Capitol Police thoroughly search the car, and nothing suspicious was found, Malecki said.

“There is no evidence to indicate any nexus to terrorism at this time,” Malecki said in a statement.

The suspect has been charged with assault with a deadline weapon-vehicle, assaulting a police officer, aggravated reckless driving and no valid permit.

The activity caused lockdowns at nearby buildings, including the Library of Congress. Normal operations resumed at the library around 3:30 p.m.
