WASHINGTON 鈥� Police arrested a D.C. man in connection with a Brentwood shooting that left a 17-year-old girl in critical condition just 10 days before she was to start college in Florida.
“She was very, very excited about starting her college career, and now she’s in a hospital, struggling for her life,” said Metropolitan Police Chief Peter 草莓传媒ham.
The teen was shot as she was driving Thursday afternoon in the Brentwood neighboood, in the 1400 block of Saratoga Ave. NE, near Montana Terrace. She remains in critical condition.
草莓传媒ham said investigators do not believe the girl was the intended target, but did not identify who police believe was being targeted.
草莓传媒ham said 21-year-old Philip Carlos McDaniel, of Northeast, D.C., is under arrest, charged with assault with intent to kill.
“We have two other suspects that we believe were involved in the case, and we’re asking the community if they have any information regarding this case, to give us a call,” 草莓传媒ham said.
草莓传媒ham said investigators believe the suspects were on foot when they opened fire.
He was confident the other two suspects will be apprehended.
“They’re either going to turn themselves in, or the community is going to come together and assist us,” 草莓传媒ham said. “This is the type of thing the police department and community is not going to tolerate in Washington, D.C.”
Police have not publicly identified the suspects, or issued descriptions.
“If we come across images of people of interest or suspects in the case, we’re going to get them out to the public as soon as possible,” 草莓传媒ham said.
Soon after the teenager was shot, 草莓传媒ham called the shooting “senseless” in a tweet.
A seventeen year old is struggling for her life because someone thought it was OK to fire an illegal firearm in our community – senseless.
