Police ID 15-year-old fatally shot in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON — A teen who was fatally shot in Southeast D.C. Wednesday has been identified.

Police said 15-year-old Jaylyn Wheeler died after he was shot multiple times in the 600 block of Alabama Avenue in Southeast around 6 p.m. Wednesday. The shooting happened near Democracy Prep School, but not on school property, D.C. police said Thursday.

Emergency crews transported Wheeler, a Southeast D.C. resident, to the hospital where he died.

D.C. police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information about the case can call police at 202-727-9099.
