D.C. police say that an officer has been hospitalized after being shot in Northwest. They have since dispatched SWAT officers to assist in an ongoing manhunt.
At midnight on Monday, police reopened streets after reports of an officer shot while responding to a “suspicious” person in the 1400 block of Quincy Street NW.
When the officer arrived, police say the suspect turned and began shooting at them. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police say their injuries appear non-life-threatening. They have not yet released the officer’s name or a description of the suspect but the officer has been released from the hospital.
Department chief Robert Contee spoke to news outlets and said that officers responded to a person who appeared suspicious.
“We will be out here for a while until we find the person responsible for this,” Contee said.
When asked if the suspect was still present in an apartment building or another area, Contee could not confirm any details. He noted that it appeared that the officers did not return fire on the suspect.

Officers were asking the public to avoid the area overnight on Sunday and that anyone with information call the department. They have since reopened the area to traffic.

A barricade was also instituted at the scene of the shooting.
The incident remains under investigation.
