WASHINGTON 鈥 Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said that the Democratic National Committee聽chair鈥檚 resignation was the right thing to do.
鈥淏ut that was yesterday, and now we鈥檙e all unified together,鈥 McAuliffe said after at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
He, like Sanders, called for the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz and anyone else who took part in the actions revealed by the leaked emails.
McAuliffe, who chaired the Democratic National Committee from 2001 to 2005, said that when he was chairman 鈥渨e had to be neutral to everybody,鈥 and, 鈥渋f anyone in your staff is trying to benefit a specific candidate, they shouldn鈥檛 be working there,鈥 he said.
He credited the speeches of first lady Michelle Obama, and senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren for bringing everyone together.
With the nomination of Hillary Clinton and with Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., as her running mate, McAuliffe said that it鈥檚 as good as it gets.
鈥淚鈥檓 skipping down the street right now,鈥 he said.
鈥淭oday is now a unified party. We鈥檙e all going as unified and we鈥檙e going against Donald Trump,鈥 McAuliffe added.
The governor said that the tone of the Democratic National Convention is different from the GOP Convention in Cleveland last week.
Trump spent four days tearing down candidates and America, McAuliffe said.
鈥淔our days hurling insults at people is not how you motivate a base to come out,鈥 he added. 鈥淵ou鈥檙e going to have a certain percentage that are angry. That鈥檚 what Donald Trump is appealing to: angry folks.鈥
