Quayle bought the 4,500-square-foot house located at 1013 Union Church Road for about $125,000 in 1977 after being elected to Congress, (The article has some good tidbits on the Quayle’s neighborly qualities).

Quayle added a glass-walled great room and an in-ground pool, according to Virginia Business. It has an updated kitchen, perhaps space for increased storage.

The five-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom Colonial is situated on a 1.84-acre corner lot. It was recently listed at $1.45 million, but bidding will begin at $850,000 at the Sept. 16 auction.

Open houses are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday and Sept. 12. To participate in the auction, prospective buyers must bring funds for a deposit of 10 percent of the purchase price, according to the report.
