Virginia gun show attendees no fans of President Obama, or his policies

CHANTILLY, Va. 鈥撀燩resident Barack Obama is expected to meet with Attorney General Loretta Lynch Monday to discuss ways he could use executive action to expand gun restrictions.

But not everyone likes the idea, and聽many gun owners, collectors and advocates are showing their displeasure by heading out to the nearest gun show.

鈥淥bama,鈥 Roger Gooden explained as his reason for being at the Dulles Gun Show in Chantilly on Sunday with a chuckle. 鈥淣ah, me and my daughter shoot and collect guns and because of his policies — and you never know what the heck he is going to do with his executive orders — just adding to the collection.鈥

Gooden says聽he bought his first gun when he was 14.聽 He鈥檚 now in his fifties and only owned no more than nine guns — until recently.

鈥淪ince Obama鈥檚 been in office, I鈥檝e gone from nine to close to 50 (guns),” he said.聽鈥淚t鈥檚 just every time something happens and he [President Obama] starts running his mouth, it鈥檚 like 鈥榃ell, let鈥檚 go to the gun show.”

Others weren鈥檛 as politically motivated to make the trip to the gun show.

鈥淚t started out with a basic handgun,鈥 Dave Darling shared. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e like tattoos.聽 When you get one, you want more.鈥

But聽he, too, is no fan of the president鈥檚 plan or strategy to reduce violence.

鈥淧eople aren鈥檛 getting shot to death in Texas because everyone carries guns. It鈥檚 places like California that are very liberal,鈥 said Darling.

Richard Graham decided to go with his buddies to the Dulles Expo Center to see what was there after a morning of shooting.

鈥淚 think he鈥檚 an idiot,鈥 Graham said of Obama, with a smile and a chuckle. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 all I鈥檓 going to say.鈥

His friend, Chris Dugan, had a more direct reason for making the trip from Woodbridge to Chantilly on Sunday.聽鈥淚鈥檓 just kinda shoving it in Obama鈥檚 face.鈥

Dugan says background checks are important and necessary to ensuring聽only qualified people have access to firearms, but he feels that more gun ownership would keep the country safe.

鈥淭hese guys with the guns that are going and blowing people away in the malls and in movie theaters, if they thought that everybody else had a gun,” he offered, “they鈥檇 think twice about doing that.”
