WASHINGTON 鈥 A tree sliced into a house in Annandale, Virginia after powerful storms ripped through the region Thursday afternoon.

A massive tree uprooted in the storms and sliced into a two-story house in the 8200 block of Toll House Road聽around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

The homeowners, a retired couple, were in the house at the time. Emergency crews transported them to an area hospital as a precautionary measure 鈥 they are expected to be OK.

Fairfax County fire crews had to rescue the male homeowner who was trapped in the house when the tree barreled into the top floor, Nancy Pergolizzi, a neighbor, told 草莓传媒.

鈥淭hat is the worst damage I鈥檝e ever seen from a tree into a house. I don鈥檛 think the house is salvageable,鈥 she suspected.

The tree knocked down part of the home鈥檚 chimney as well.

Pergolizzi said the rain came in sideways and hard in the neighborhood.

鈥淚鈥檝e been in some pretty bad rain storms and this really qualifies and really ranks right up there as the worst one ever,鈥 she said.
