WASHINGTON — A George Mason University student will effectively serve three years in prison for selling LSD to a fraternity brother who died from falling out a fifth-floor window.

Alejandro Porrata admitted selling LSD to 19-year-old Tristan Medina in September. Three days after the sale, Medina ran and crashed through a dorm building window on the Fairfax, Virginia, campus.

Porrata faced a charge of distribution of a controlled drug.

“You are a drug dealer,” a judge told Porrata, according to ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½’s news partners . “You did a very stupid thing, and as a result, your family is suffering, the Medina family is suffering, and you will suffer as well.”

Porrata received a 10-year sentence, with seven of those years suspended. He also must serve 100 hours of community service.

Both Porrata and Medina were members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
