Jose Andres’ selfie campaign gets food to those who need it

WASHINGTON 鈥 D.C. restaurateur and chef Jose Andres has a new way to get fresh fruit and vegetables to people in need.

The D.C. restaurateur and chef has partnered with , a group that gets fresh and local food to people in need, and Naked Juice for a campaign that will bring fruit and vegetables to people in the District who live in 鈥渇ood deserts,鈥 .

All you need to do is tweet a picture of yourself with the hashtag , and Naked Juice will donate the monetary equivalent of 10 pounds of produce.

D.C. Hunger says that 13.4 percent of households in the District don鈥檛 have enough access to food, and Andres calls it 鈥渁 very silent issue.鈥 He tells DCist, 鈥減eople don鈥檛 like to be going around and saying, 鈥業 don鈥檛 have food to bring today to my table.鈥 But hunger is a true issue.鈥

He says that the selfie campaign is a simple step people can take to help out neighbors in need.
