DC’s Bad Saint named No. 2 best new restaurant in the US

WASHINGTON — D.C. just can’t stop winning when it comes to Bon Appétit’s ‘best of’ list.

Earlier this month, three D.C. restaurants made the national food magazine’s list of top 50 finalists for America’s best new restaurants.

Then, on Aug. 10, Bon Appétit awarded its “” title to the District.

The top 50 list has been , and D.C.-based is the No. 2 best new restaurant in the country.

The 24-seat, walk-in-only Filipino restaurant opened last September in Columbia Heights.

, Bon Appétit’s Andrew Knowlton raved about dishes such as the freshwater shrimp fritter with sweet potato and cilantro, and the adobong dilaw — a chicken, turmeric and burnt coconut stew.

“Their food is personal, but it’s so much more than just dishes they ate as kids. Bad Saint is the kind of place I spend all year searching for,” Knowlton said about the restaurant in the magazine’s Hot 10.

Atlanta’s Staplehouse restaurant landed No. 1, and Pittsburgh’s Morcilla came in third.

In 2014, D.C.’s Rose’s Luxury won the magazine’s coveted .
