Local police officers to give up shaving for good cause

WASHINGTON — Police officers in Frederick, Maryland, could be looking a little scruffy this month.

±õ³Ù’s , and the Frederick police chief is waiving the department’s shaving policy.

This is the first year the department is taking part in the fundraiser, which encourages big mustaches or long beards for a good cause.

Acting Capt. Clark Pennington says police officers or employees who get to skip shaving for 30 days. The money raised benefits cancer patients at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Pennington says the public can also donate to the fundraiser by contacting their local Fraternal Order of Police lodge.

The push ends on Dec. 1, when the department will hold a contest.

“And there will be judges who will judge the [best] beard, goatee and mustache,” Pennington says.
