It happens to the best of us: You’re putting together Christmas dinner and only realize at the last minute you’re missing a key ingredient. Most stores will be open Christmas Eve — with modified hours — and a few will even be open on Christmas Day.
Here’s a list of hours for grocery stores throughout the D.C. area.
Christmas Eve
These are the stores that are open — including those with modified hours — on Christmas Eve:
- Aldi: Stores will close at 4 p.m. .
- Amazon Fresh: Open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. .
- BJ’s: Open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Check out .
- Costco: Open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. .
- Food Lion: Stores close at 6 p.m.
- Fresh Market: Open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Giant: Stores are open until 7 p.m.. .
- Harris Teeter: Stores close at 7 p.m.
- Lidl: Stores will close at 7 p.m. .
- MOM’s Organic Market: Open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. .
- Publix: All stores open at regular hours and stay open till 7 p.m. .
- Safeway: Most stores open with holiday hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Sam’s Club: Open until 6 p.m. .
- Shoppers: Store hours depend on location. .
- Target: Most stores close at 8 p.m.
- Trader Joe’s: Stores will be open until 5 p.m. .
- Walmart: Stores are open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. .
- Wegmans: Stores will close at 6 p.m. .

Christmas Day
Most stores are closed on Christmas Day. One of the few that will be open, with reduced hours is Giant. However, only some stores will be open.

- Safeway: Most stores will open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
