Baby-naming site ranks the sexiest names

WASHINGTON – The naming experts over at have been wondering about what makes a name sexy.

So during the past five years, they’ve asked visitors to the site about their favorite sexy names, and those that are just plain dowdy. Turns out having lots of vowels in a name can give it that sexy flair.

Many of the names that made it onto the site’s top ten sexiest names list, released this week, come from the Romance languages of French, Spanish and Italian. References to Shakespearean characters appear on the list and so do the two main characters from Margaret Mitchell’s epic novel “Gone with the Wind.”

The least sexy names feature hard sounds and consonants. The least sexiest women’s names each have two syllables and peaked in popularity before the start of the 20th century, according to the site.

The rankings were based on the results of thousands of visitors who were asked to rank names on a scale of 1 to 100. The majority of participants were women.
