Month of March sees an increase in divorces

WASHINGTON 鈥 The start of spring may mean warmer temperatures, but some marriages may find themselves in a deep chill.

A new analysis finds that March is 鈥淒ivorce Month,鈥 with more filings and online searches for divorce-related information, according to . The website鈥檚 research found that divorces spike in January, but continue to rise and peak in late March.

Divorce attorney Tim Hoch tells in Dallas that the month鈥檚 trend is part of a 鈥渟pring cleaning,鈥 when unhappy couples attempt a three-month plan.

鈥淲e call January the decision month, February the planning month and then March is the filing month,鈥澛燞och told the station.

According to FindLaw.com, holiday stress and depression may lead to cheating, which in turn leads to post-New Year鈥檚 divorce filings.

Another reason divorce may be delayed until after the holidays may be income taxes, as marital status at the end of the year determines how you鈥檒l file.
