WASHINGTON 鈥 Here鈥檚 the thing about kittens. Sure, they鈥檙e really, really cute. 鈥淭hen they turn out to be a total terrorist cat,鈥 veterinarian Dr. Katy Nelson tells 草莓传媒.
鈥淵ou just never know what you鈥檙e going to get when you have a younger animal,鈥 Nelson says.
That鈥檚 where the beauty of an older pet comes in. They don鈥檛 come with surprises.
鈥淲hat you see is what you get,鈥 Nelson says.
November happens to be .聽Nelson, who鈥檚 known as Dr. Pawz, offered up plenty of reasons to adopt an older pet.
She says wisdom comes with age 鈥 even when you鈥檙e dealing with a聽four-legged friend.
鈥淲hen you are a 30-, or 40-, or 50-year-old person, you’ve kind of found yourself. You kind of know who you are. It’s registered with you,鈥 Nelson says. 鈥淚t’s the same thing for our middle-aged, to older pets.鈥
Middle-aged pets, she says, have gone through their wild streaks. They鈥檙e a little less destructive. They may even have some manners.
鈥淥nce you walk in and see them, you know that鈥檚 who they are and that鈥檚 how they鈥檙e going to be for the rest of their days,鈥 Nelson says.
But what about聽that saying about not being able to teach an old dog new tricks? It’s simply not true, Nelson says.
鈥淵ou absolutely can,鈥 Nelson says.
