Warm and warmer: Friday’s high temperatures could break records

WASHINGTON 鈥 The rather odd mix of fall foliage, early darkness and warm temperatures will get even more stark on Friday, as highs could break records for the date.

Highs on Thursday will reach the low 70s, though there won鈥檛 be much sun until maybe later in the day. Friday will be even warmer, reaching the upper 70s.

Here are the record highs for Nov. 6:

  • In D.C., it’s 78, set in 1948;
  • At BWI, it鈥檚 77, set in 2005;
  • At Dulles, it hit 78 in 1994.

鈥淚 think we鈥檒l break the record,鈥澛燦BC Washington鈥檚 Lauryn Ricketts says.

She adds that it could reach 80 on Friday 鈥 a temperature realm most probably thought the area was done with for the year when it reached 80 on Sept. 29.

It also opens up a whole new history book: The last time D.C. reached 80 or more in November was on Nov. 5, 2003, and the latest the mercury reached 80 happened聽鈥 well, back when they used mercury: Nov. 18, 1921.

Enjoy it while it lasts 鈥 the boom lowers on the weekend. Saturday鈥檚 highs will only reach the low 60s with some showers, Ricketts says.

And on Sunday, two days after possible record warmth, temperatures will be below average: the mid- to upper 50s, albeit under mostly sunny skies.
