WASHINGTON聽鈥� A 13-year-old girl had to be rescued by a Maryland State Police helicopter after she became stranded on a rock in the Shenandoah River near Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Monday night.
The helicopter crew out of Frederick, Maryland, assisted West Virginia fire and emergency personnel because a boat could not get to the teen around 7:15 p.m.
In a news release police said the girl was “stranded on a rock completely surrounded by rapids that made a rescue by boat or any other means impossible.”
Rescue Tech Sgt. Gregg Lantz, a member of the helicopter crew, was lowered down to the rock. The crew then sent down a basket for the teen. Lantz helped her into the basket, and the helicopter hoisted both of them back up.
