WASHINGTON 鈥� With 19 games left to go in the Capitals鈥� 2016鈥�2017 season, there are three good reasons to believe that they will go deep in the playoffs this year.
- Their home win streak since New Year鈥檚 remains intact.
- They鈥檝e held their own against powerhouses like Chicago and Columbus.
- And team captain Alex Ovechkin is so confident that he found time to work a few hours at an area Papa John鈥檚.
Wait. What?
Believe it. Ovi actually helped make and deliver some pies to hungry Sterling, Virginia, residents Friday afternoon. He wore the uniform and even had that iconic Papa John鈥檚 sign atop his own high-end car.
As a recent Papa John鈥檚 ad campaign would have you believe, it was a dream come true for the hockey superstar. But it was a real dream come true for a few fans who were not expecting him to be knocking at their door.
鈥淥vi, what, are you a driver for Paper John鈥檚 now?鈥� one asked.
鈥淵eah, nothing to do 鈥� boring,鈥� he replied.
The part-time shift was part of his new multiyear endorsement deal with the pizza chain. Another part of that deal involves raising money for the mid-Atlantic chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
So far, he鈥檚 helped them raise over $36,000.
Sadly, a few were too hungry too appreciate hockey greatness when it came knocking. A baby sitter, upon being told who the delivery guy was, replied, 鈥淚 don鈥檛 do sports.鈥�
鈥淚t鈥檚 a good thing,鈥� Ovechkin replied, laughing.
So what is No. 8鈥檚 favorite pizza, you ask? Well, per Tarik El-Bashir at Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, it鈥檚 ham, mushrooms, pineapple and tomatoes.
