WASHINGTON — The first day of 2018 is going to be dangerously cold.
A wind chill advisory has been issued for the D.C. area until 9 a.m. Monday.
Single digit temperatures can lead to frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes, according to Storm Team 4 meteorologist Sheena Parveen.
Wind chills will drop below zero across the entire region, with some areas seeing wind chills as low as -20 degrees.

Here’s a look at the latest forecast:
Monday: Mostly sunny. Blustery and very cold. Winds diminishing toward evening.
Highs in the low 20s. Wind chills in the teens to single digits.
Monday night: Mostly clear. Not as windy, but still very cold.
Lows in the single digits to mid teens.

Wind Chill Advisories remain in effect for all locations until 9 AM with sub-zero wind chills expected. The Wind Chill Advisories continue through the day and tonight for the higher elevations. High temperatures will only top out in the teens and low 20s today.

If you’re going out in these freezing temperatures, be sure to dress accordingly. Cover exposed skin with a hat, gloves and a scarf or a knit mask over your face and mouth. Wear several layers of loosefitting clothes — as opposed to just one heavy layer — and consider water-resistant outerwear and shoes.
