5-month-old dies after being struck by vehicle in Leesburg

WASHINGTON — A 5-month-old boy died after he and his mother were struck by a car in Leesburg, Virginia, Wednesday morning.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said the pair were hit at about 8:15 a.m. at Riverside Parkway at Kipheart Drive. They were crossing Riverside Parkway as they were hit by a man driving a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee turning left from Cotton Manor Drive onto Riverside Parkway.

The mother was pushing her son in a stroller in a marked crosswalk when the car struck them.

The mother is in a local hospital Wednesday evening with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation. The driver stayed at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
