WASHINGTON — A 38-year-old environmental lawyer from the Philippines Tuesday will try to swim solo across the Chesapeake Bay.
“This is my first open water swim in the Atlantic Ocean. Swim is to promote Clean Seas & Beaches in the Philippines,” Ingemar P. Macarine, who is known as the “Pinoy Aquaman,” writes on his .
The swim will take Macarine from the shores of Sandy Point State Park to a sandy beach on Kent Island, south of Hemingway’s Restaurant, about 4.4 miles.
“This would be the first time that a true-blooded Filipino will cross the channel,” he tells .
Last year, Macarine became the first Filipino to swim from Alcatraz Island Penitentiary to San Francisco, reports.
His swim comes just days before the June 14 , a fundraiser for the Maryland Chapter of the . Each year, nearly 600 people try to swim the bay during the event.
