WASHINGTON 鈥� A Queen Anne’s County sheriff’s deputy is improving after he was critically wounded Thursday by a shotgun blast while responding to a domestic violence call on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
Deputy Warren Hogan, 32, is now listed in serious condition, the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office said in a Friday afternoon.
On Thursday, doctors at the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center said Hogan had suffered a “devastating injury” from the close-range shotgun blast.
Hogan was accompanying a Chestertown, Maryland, woman who had reported a domestic violence incident to her house to retrieve some belongings when authorities say her boyfriend, 52-year-old James Rich, opened fire on the deputy.
Hogan returned fire, wounding Rich who was pronounced dead at a hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
Hogan was wearing a body camera, according to authorities.
The Queen Ane’s County Fraternal Order of Police has launched a to support Hogan and his family during his recovery.
