WASHINGTON — Montgomery County Police are searching for a suspect after a Shell employee suffered a head wound during a Silver Spring, Maryland, robbery Friday morning.
Police initially said the clerk was shot, but the preliminary investigation reveals the suspect entered the Shell and produced a handgun. During the course of the robbery, the suspect struck the victim on the head with the handgun.
The worker is expected to survive.
Police say the robbery at a Shell station near University Boulevard and U.S. 29, where an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen, occurred as one clerk was coming to work and another leaving. It happened around 6:30 a.m.
The injured clerk went to a 7-Eleven across University Boulevard for help.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect running toward Colesville Road.
Police describe the suspect as white or Hispanic, about 5-foot-8, wearing a black jacket and black pants. During the robbery, his face was partially covered. His age is uncertain.

Police assisted in getting students at nearby Montgomery Blair High School into school safely.
