WASHINGTON — It’s a warning not to be fooled by but there is聽 another tax scam circulating in the mail and one that targets property owners in Montgomery County.
Some homeowners are receiving a 聽in the mail that appears to be from a state or local government agency.聽聽It leads homeowners to believe they may be聽paying more in property taxes than others in comparable homes.聽 It promises to review their property tax assessment for $99. But don’t be fooled.
County leaders say it’s free to petition for a.聽聽 Anyone who fell for the scam should file a complaint with the Office of Consumer Protection.聽聽 The deceptive letter has been reported to the U.S. Postal Service.
