Montgomery Co. leaders to discuss use of Tasers by police

WASHINGTON — How Tasers are used by Montgomery County police is the topic of a Thursday morning meeting.

Montgomery County Council’s Public Safety Committee will hold a 9:30 a.m.  to discuss the issue.

The committee is expected to hear from Police Chief Tom Manger and Assistant Chief Luther Reynolds, among others.

A Baltimore Sun investigation published last month counted , and four of those 11 involved Montgomery County police officers.

The newspaper also reported that in three of those four incidents, county officers fired a Taser for longer than the 15 seconds recommended by the manufacturer.

After the report was released, the department began its own review of Taser use, and the results are expected around June 1.
