WASHINGTON — Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett is raising concerns about a proposed bill that would raise the county’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020.
Leggett sent a memo to Montgomery County Council President Nancy Floreen Tuesday about the proposed increase, .
Among the issues Leggett raised: whether the county would be placed at an economic disadvantage and whether the county itself could afford the $15 an hour rate.
In July of 2017, Montgomery County’s minimum wage will go from $10.75 an hour to $11.50 under legislation already enacted. Under the new bill, the minimum wage would inch upward in increments until it tops out at $15 an hour by the year 2020.
A vote on the proposed bill isn’t expected until next year.
